Supporting Mental Health Awareness Week
The Addy is a registered charity, based in Knottingley, West Yorkshire. The Addy was originally known as Warick Adventure Playground and was set up in 1972. At this time, many miners moved to the area and their children would venture down to the quarry to play. The playground was set up to provide local children with a safe space to explore and play. Since it opened over 40 years ago, the Addy has developed into much more than a safe place to play.
Thanks to many dedicated staff and volunteers, the Old Quarry Adventure playground provides daily play sessions for children of all ages, as well as services for the elderly, children with additional needs and for local youths and tots. It’s a space to adventure and be free.
The Addy are members of the LDC and we are keen to support them moving forward.
Areas to be covered:
• A tour of the Addy facilities and understanding their vision
• How could the LDC community support the Addy
• Giving back to others and the positive impact that has on our own wellbeing
• A personal story from Ella Egan. Dealing with grief as a teenager. Ella’s dad (Dan) took his own life 5 years ago and
Ella is committed to telling her story – with the aim of helping others. Jacqui is Ella’s mum who we have worked with
in recent years – she has been a great support with the LDC family camping trips.
• Planning for our family camping trips
• Sharing experiences around our own wellbeing
