Our Mental Health Awareness Week activities!

Celebrating Mental Health Awareness Week 2025; The LDC’s Commitment to Community and Wellbeing

As part of our continued commitment to supporting Mental Health, The LDC has been proud to engage in a series of inspiring events and collaborations that highlight the importance of community connection, volunteering, and wellbeing. From Sunderland to West Yorkshire, our teams have come together with local organisations to make a meaningful impact.

Baking, Bonding, and Wellbeing with the Foundation of Light

Our return visit to the Beacon of Light in Sunderland was filled with warmth, laughter, and the smell of freshly baked treats. The Greencore Technical Team at Consett—Sara Robertson, Sarah Walsh, and Paulina Stelmach-Lisiecka joined a lovely group from the Foundation of Light’s Over 55s Community for a baking session that was as nourishing for the soul as it was delicious.

A heartfelt thank you goes to Jade Gilbertson and Dan Coyne of the Foundation of Light for their ongoing support and partnership. The event once again reinforced how acts of volunteering and helping others can positively influence our own mental wellbeing. We’re excited about growing this relationship further—our ambitions for future collaborative projects are only getting bigger.

Supporting Children and Families at The ADDY

In another impactful initiative, we spent time at The ADDY – Old Quarry Adventure Playground, which has been a cornerstone of the local community for over 40 years. With support from its dedicated staff and volunteers, The ADDY offers daily play sessions for children, as well as support for teenagers, the elderly, and children with additional needs.

We explored how The LDC community could deepen its support for The ADDY, including ideas around expanding our family camping trips, which have proven to be a great success. A special thank you to Ella Durrant, who bravely shared her personal story of grief and losing her father—her openness added a deeply moving and human touch to the event.

Under the sunshine, we built new relationships, enjoyed great food, and strengthened our belief in the value of community engagement and volunteerism.

Reconnecting with Nature at Three Springs

Our third event took us to Three Springs in West Yorkshire—a breathtaking health and wellbeing site offering access to woodlands, farmland, and a rich variety of flora and fauna. It provided the perfect backdrop for a day of reflection and connection for the team from the Bishop Konstant Catholic Academy Trust (BKCAT).

With nourishing food cooked outdoors and the tranquility of nature surrounding us, the team had a chance to focus on employee wellbeing, discuss shared challenges, and build stronger personal and professional bonds. A big thank you to Pete, James, Nicola, Alistair, and Eithan for their generous support in making the day a success.

Following this positive experience, LDC is excited to explore a long-term collaborative relationship with Three Springs to continue supporting mental health and wellbeing through nature-based experiences.

Looking Ahead

These three events showcased how collaboration, compassion, and community spirit can drive positive change. As we reflect on a week full of learning, laughter, and connection, we’re more committed than ever to supporting mental health and wellbeing—not just for Mental Health Awareness Week, but year-round.

Stay tuned for more updates on our growing partnerships and upcoming projects.
